For example, if your target audience is 35-45 year old males—sponsoring an event targeted towards college-aged individuals will not give you the exposure you aim to achieve. Instead, look for events that your target audience will attend—and for organizations that your target audience frequents. For example, if your target audience is 35-45 year old males you could sponsor a children’s softball team. While the children are not your target audience, their fathers are. Also ensure that you sponsor something you believe in, because your true passion about the cause will be evident to anyone who inquires about your relationship with the event or organization.

Go Local And The Visibility It Will Gain

Sponsoring an event or organization is a tax deductible expense, which sometimes makes it tempting to sponsor only nationwide organizations. While sponsoring nationwide organizations of course has its benefits—unless your budget is substantial, your contribution is likely to go unnoticed in your community. Instead, look for local organizations or local chapters of nationwide organizations that are frequented by your target audience. This could be a well-established non-profit, or an up and coming organization who you plan to be an ongoing part of.

Sponsoring is a great way to showcase your services and products, and to donate your current and outdated inventory. It provides you an invaluable opportunity to develop customer relationships with both existing and prospective clients. Get creative when looking for sponsorship opportunities—and remain consistent in your community involvement as your business continues to grow.
